Ben Gilmore has worked as an amateur/professional artist for over 40 years, creating beautiful works of art in pen and ink, acrylic, and watercolor. He currently works in a realist style in watercolor and acrylic—mostly serene landscapes and florals, and occasionally a still life painting. He has also recently been experimenting with an abstract impressionist style in acrylics—creating large canvases of vibrant colors that swim together in harmonious movement. Ben currently lives in Pennsylvania. He was born and raised in Texas, and lived for ten years outside of Washington, in Virginia.
Ben has a Bachelor's Degree in Graphic Design from W.T.A&M University. He also attended the Texas State Technical Institute and Amarillo Junior College focusing on Fine Arts, Computer Information Systems, and Graphic Design. He has worked as a freelance graphic designer for years, worked as the Lead Production Artist for several newspapers in the Washington, DC region and as the Lead Illustrator/Department Head with a contractor for the U.S. Department of Defense, US Army. He also worked for ten years as a locomotive engineer with the Santa Fe Railroad.
Early on Ben fell in love with Watercolors, which for years became the primary medium in which he worked. Throughout his career he has taught Drawing and Watercolor classes to adults and children, hoping to teach others the techniques he has enjoyed for years. Seven years ago he began painting with Acrylics, which inspired him to explore more fluid and abstract imagery. Ben mastered his technique through years of practice, and by taking workshops and classes with world-renowned artists such as Stephan Kramer, Mike McCullough, Danny Gamble, David Rindlesbaugher, Mark Morey, Keith Richards and dozens more renowned artists/organizations.
Ben has received numerous show awards with various art groups and has been juried into many shows and exhibitions throughout his career. Since moving to Pennsylvania he received an "Award For Excellence" at the Somerset Art Association, Bedminster, New Jersey, an "Honorable Mention" at the Bethlehem Palate Club show at the Allentown Art Museum, and the "UGI Utilities, Inc. Award" at Lehigh Art Alliance Exhibition at Lehigh University. He has sold his artwork to numerous private collectors, institutions, and businesses. For several years he worked by commission only. He is currently working towards accumulating works for exhibition. Check back for a date announcement or email him to be put on his mailing list.
